New to the Des Moines area? Ready to discover some new places for some great eats? Here are 5 places to check out-with some of our favorites for Breakfast/Lunch and Dinner.

1. Big City Burgers and Greens

What is different about Big City? They source from local farmers whenever possible for the freshest ingredients that support our great community.

We suggest checking out their Balsamic Salad (you can add steak or chicken for protein), or more classic Burger for an indulgent treat!

2. Ritual Café

The Ritual Café is located in downtown Des Moines and is an all vegetarian option. Their eggs and baked treats are sourced locally!

Try their House Drip which is organic and roasted locally. If just a coffee won’t do due to hunger try their Mediterranean Bowl with red peppers, hummus, and delicious feta cheese!

3. HoQ

Here you can get local food with international flavor! Something unique here is that the Menu changes frequently. This is due to the seasons and the local food available being sourced. The meat here is also grass fed which is a huge plus!

4. The Juice Company Café

A great place for a light breakfast. No artificial colors, flavors or preservatives here! The flavor here comes from fresh fruits and veggies-the way nature intended. They even plant and grow their own wheatgrass!

One of our favorite smoothies on the menu is Love Potion #9, but a fun treat is their Wheatgrass Lemonade.

5. Mixed

The ideal option for fast and fresh! Mixed has a ten point green standard which is quite impressive. This includes using 100% recycled paper towels and napkins, reusable bowls for their salads and wraps, and a recycle station for customer’s after their filling meal.

For Breakfast we recommend the French Avocado which includes of course avocado but also delicious bacon. For Lunch try the Opah Salad which includes black olives, green peppers, cucumber, roma tomato, and feta cheese!
