Having worked in health care for the last 10 plus years, I have traveled down a winding road, accumulating many trainings, certifications and specialties. I am excited to be bringing this age old and time tested medicine to the Ankeny and Greater Des Moines area.
I am an Acupuncturist, massage therapist, nutrition enthusiast, and overall health and wellness coach.
I have been practicing acupuncture for several years now, and have become known for helping people with an array of health concerns. My specialties include migraines, digestive issues, pain management and neuropathy. I have a way of helping bring balance and relief to those who are either struggling with a specific health concern or that may just be looking for a “wellness tune up.”
When working with any individual on their health concerns, I try to identify any and all areas that may be contributing to your current concern. It is important that we look at all areas of life, included nutrition, stress, activity level and injuries resulting from emotional, chemical or physical traumas.
Together we will work as a team to create an individualized plan that will help you achieve your desired results.
I have an immeasurable passion for this medicine and the benefits that it has to offer, due to the fact that I’ve seen life changing results first hand. When I began my journey with acupuncture I was working in the Western Medical System and also struggling with many health concerns of my own. At the time of my first treatment I was on six different medications for everything from acid reflux, migraines, anxiety and depression. It wasn’t until the final diagnosis of polycystic ovarian syndrome that they put me on a synthetic hormone replacement. At that point, I gained over 60 pounds in just a short period of time.
After starting to seek out alternative health forms I came across chiropractic and acupuncture. Through changes in lifestyle and along with treatments, I was able to get off of all six medications and get rid of that extra 60 pounds all in a matter of a year. Years later, I have now been able to maintain that optimal state of health and I love helping others along their journey as well. If you can believe it, I haven’t even taken an over the counter medicine in over four years!
I am currently licensed to do Acupuncture through the Iowa Medical Board, and Nationally Certified through the National Certification Commission of Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM).
I graduated from Northwestern Health Sciences University with my Masters in Acupuncture, after studying at Iowa State University for four years.
My clinical experiences in Minnesota included working with a variety of patients from senior care, Integrative Medical settings, and even training in China. While at Tianjin University for Traditional Chinese Medicine (TUTCM) in China, I learned specific treatment protocols, including the famous Xing Nao Kai Qiao, to aide in Stroke Rehabilitation .
I also studied massage therapy here in Iowa, and have been fortunate to get to work with pediatrics, geriatrics, corporate athletes and many professional athletes. I combine traditional Tui Na Chinese style massage with therapeutic and Thai style massages to get you the best results.
When I’m not in the clinic I enjoy doing educational workshops, community out reach and group acupuncture sessions for your place of faith, friends or business. If you know of a non-profit organization that is in need of medical support, let us know and we will find the best way to serve their needs.
